Pero...¿Qué cantidades de Vitamina C necesitamos? 

Como veréis a continuación hay muy poco consenso dentro de la Comunidad Científica en cuanto a la cantidad mínima y la cantidad máxima. Prueba de ello damos las siguientes referencias:

• 0'04 gramos por día: Food Standards Agency del Reino Unido.
• 0'045 gramos por día: la Organización Mundial de la Salud
• 0'06 - 0'095 gramos por día: National Academy of Sciences de los Estados Unidos. Según este organismo no se deben exceder los 2000 mg por día.
• 0'4 gramos por día (mínimo): the Linus Pauling Institute.
• 1 gramo por día: profesor Roc Ordman, para la investigación de los radicales libres.
• 3 gramos por día (hasta 30 g para enfermos): Fundación para la vitamina C.
• 6 – 12 gramos por día: Thomas E. Levy, Colorado Integrative Medical Centre.
• 6 – 18 gramos por día: dosis que ingería Linus Pauling.

Lo que hay que tener claro, es que és mejor consumir de más que de menos, ya que la Vitamina C que nuestro cuerpo no absorve....es eliminada con la orina. Solo personas con problemas renales deben disminuir su consumo ya que puede empeorar los cálculos renales.

Como nota final me gustaría añadir que cocer los alimentos ricos en vitamina C o almacenarlos durante un periodo de tiempo largo puede reducir el contenido de dicha vitamina. Cocer en microondas o al vapor alimentos ricos en vitamina C puede reducir las pérdidas debido a la cocción. Las mejores fuentes alimentarias de vitamina C son las frutas y las verduras crudas

Y como dato personal, desde que probé el brécol crudo estoy enamorado de el. Nunca me creí capaz de comérmelo. Pero os recomiendo comprar un pimiento, un pepino, un brécol y zanahorias, cortarlos a tiras/bastones como un dedo y servir en una fuente con queso untable o humus (casero si es posible). Con ello tendremos una cena ligera, baja en calorías y riquísima en vitaminas, entre ellas la C.

Beca Prodoctoral en Switzerland

Luc Hoffmann Institute Fellow Opportunity:

Assessing sustainable agriculture/forestry commodity standards

 The Luc Hoffmann Institute, based at WWF International, Switzerland, seeks a post-doctoral fellow.  This fellow will work with an interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Team (CRT) to assess the degree to which such sustainability standards are leading to better environmental, economic and social outcomes and whether these standards can help society meet the future demand for agriculture products while sustaining important environmental services and biodiversity. Results of analysis will be used to recommend improvements in the design of standards for better conservation outcomes. The goal is to assess the potential environmental, economic and social benefits and costs of WWF’s publically supported commodity sustainability standards with models that translate producer-level actions into predictions of landscape-scale environmental and social impacts.

This is a 24-month position that can begin as early as January 2014 and is based in St. Paul, Minnesota with domain mentors at WWF-US with Dr. Derric Pennington and at University of Minnesota with Dr. Jon Foley and Dr. Steve Polasky. 

Major Duties & Responsibilities: In collaboration with the mentoring team, the Fellow will:

·     Co-lead and coordinate collaborative research team activities

·    Co-develop and apply an integrated biophysical (e.g., agriculture yields, water use and quality, carbon emissions, habitat for biodiversity) and economic modeling approach that includes identifying and linking sustainability commodity standards to measurable indicators

·         Co-develop alternative land use/land cover scenarios of land-use change under different climate and demand projections

·         Conduct post hoc empirical analyses to inform model assumptions given available data and research needs

·         Manage research intern to collect necessary data

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies 

·        - PhD in ecology, geography, economics, conservation science, ecosystem science or related field.

·     - Strong skills in quantitative modeling, statistics, economic valuation, systems thinking, geographic information systems, computer programing (preferred).

·      - Demonstrated experience with agriculture and environmental issues, project management, statistical software programs (e.g., R, Matlab)

·       - Strong research and writing skills, excellent command of English, other languages an asset

·       - Strong interest in applied, real-world conservation problem-solving

·       - Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team.

·    - Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.

Curso gratuito en Agricultura sostenible

Buenas días.

Hoy os presento un curso sobre agricultura sostenible y manejo de tierras. Impartido por el profesor George J. Hochmuth, Ph.D de la universidad de Florida.

Este curso cubrirá los problemas en calidad de aguas urbanas y agrícolas en Florida.

El curso consta de 9 semanas y se espera que el tiempo que consuma sea de entre 4 y 6 horas semanales. Pero lo mejor...es que es gratuito!

Agregar la web www.coursera.org a favoritos ya que salen muchos cursos interesantes.

Siento estar más despegadillo estos días del blog...pero entre mi tesis doctoral y que he empezado a la vez a estudiar un Máster en Agronomía Sostenible...no tengo tiempo para nada.

Muy buenas a todos. Aquí os traigo tres trabajo para el mes de Agosto en Irlanda.

Las posiciones son para trabajar en Irlanda en Teagasc. Teagasc es la máxima autoridad en Irlanda en agricultura, ganadería, ciencia del suelo, medio ambiente...es decir, un chollo poder meter cabeza en esta institución. Mapa donde Teagasc trabaja en Irlanda : Link.

Desgraciadamente, las posiciones disponibles no están en la capital, Dublín. Pero son ciudades que no están nada mal, tanto Cork como Wexford.

Flores de frutales comestibles

Siguiendo con una de las temáticas que a los lectores más les ha gustado, os presento otro post sobre flores comestibles. En este caso un post sobre flores comestibles de frutales. 

Si señores no solo nos podemos comer las manzanas, también sus flores!!

Flor del manzano

Flores de manzano.

Flores del manzano tienen un delicado sabor y aroma a manzano. Son un buen acompañamiento para platos de caza y carnes rojas. También utilizado en ensaladas y macedonias.

Flor del plátano

Flores de plátano.

Las flores son de un color púrpura-marrón muy apreciadas en la cocina asiática. Estas puedes ser cocinadas o servidas crudas. La cubierta de l flor es dura y generalmente se eliminan las capas hasta llegar al corazón (la parte más tierna casi blanca de la flor, como hacemos con las alcachofas. Y sí la alcachofa aunque muchos no lo sepan es una flor). Debe ser cortado en lonchas y dejar reposar en agua hasta que la mayor parte de la savia se han ido. Para comerla cruda, solo asegurarse que proviene de variedades no amargas.

Flores de cítricos (naranja, limón, lima, pomelo, kumquat, australia finger limes)

Son pétalos altamente aromatizantes. Son bastante cerosos y no muy fáciles de digerir, así que su use se recomiendo con moderación. Sobre todo son utilizados en reposteria mediante aceites esenciales de las flores de Azahar u infusionados como tees o licores.

La baya del saúco Flores (Sambucus)

Las flores son de un color cremoso y tienen un olor dulce y sabor dulce. El fruto se utiliza para hacer vino un tipo de vino. Las flores, hojas, bayas, corteza y raíces se han utilizado en la medicina popular tradicional durante siglos.






NOTA: La mayoría de los árboles frutales en explotaciones agrícolas suelen verse sometidos a intensos tratamientos insecticidas, finguicidas, y demás tratamientos fitosanitarios. Solo consumir aquellas que estemos 100 % seguros que es seguro su consumo por estar libres de fitosanitarios. Y recordar, utilizar únicamente los pétalos, ni los pistilos ni estambres que suelen amargar.
